Hello

Is there some setting to automatically prevent lines from crossing through an existing shape? I know I can manually move a line but its a little inconvenient to have to manually move them every time especially if I have a lot of shapes that need to be connected to different areas.

I've included a picture showing the behavior I'd like to avoid.

Thank you

Hi @hal b thanks for posting in the community! Unfortunately there isn't currently a way to prevent lines crossing through existing shapes. However I can certainly see how a feature like this would be useful when working with diagrams with many shapes and lines.

We're always looking for ways to improve Lucidchart and your feedback is the best way for us to do that. Would you mind adding your idea to our feature request form? Ideas submitted to this form are passed on to the product development team for their consideration.

Thanks for your request and I apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.

+1 to this idea as well, and to add to it:

a feature like “Distribute” and “Arrange” all selected Shapes and Lines to auto-distribute within each given swimlane so they are arranged in a way where no Lines are overlapping other Lines.

Thank you! @Ambar D I appreciate you taking the time to convert this to an Idea to help both @Hal B and me.

I was going to use the Create a Topic -> Idea feature myself but you’ve saved me a trip :D

In Summary:

  • Auto-Distribute shapes in LucidChart to avoid all connector Lines overlapping Lines
  • Automatically prevent lines from crossing through an existing shape

Hi @elena, thank you for adding that additional detail and context about what you are hoping to see in Lucid! This is the perfect thread to get your feedback in front of our product teams.

Hello @Ambar D @Hal B  Is that funcionality/improvement available in Lucid now, or is it still on wish list? I admit, that would be a very useful function.I have hundreds lines to move:(

Best Regards,

Anna
