Allow "change shape" for all shape types

I was confused that I could only right-click and change a shape on certain shapes. The functionality seems inconsistent to me as a user. As a user, I would like to be able to replace or “change shape” on any shape on the canvas. To me it doesn’t matter if the shape is imported or from another library, they’re all shapes that I might want to change at a later point.

To extend this, I would like to be able to select multiple instances of the same shape and be able to replace those instances with a new shape. So, if I have 3 shapes that are all the same, but in different locations and different sizes, I can can select all 3 shapes, right-click, select “Change Shape” and have the option to change those 3 shapes to another shape in any library I have access to.

“Change shape” is available for the following shape libraries:

Shapes
Flowchart Shapes
Geometric Shapes (partial)
Mind Mapping
Kubernetes
AWS Arch
Circuit Diagrams
Enterprise Architecture
Entity Relationship
Site Maps

“Change shape” is not supported for the following shape libraries, and addition of this ability isn’t currently prioritized, but we’re still very interested in your feedback.

Dynamic Shapes
Enterprise Architecture
Enterprise Integration
Geometric Shapes
Process Engineering
Sales Account Map
Salesforce Architecture
Server Rack Diagrams

I want to change shape from text (just a plain label) to a shape with that text in the shape.

For example, I may start out just adding a text label but then later decide that I want a rounded rectangle and that text at the top middle of it. Pretty much treat text label as one of the core shapes that can change from and to.

Our product development teams are regularly reviewing feedback within this space of the community as they continue to research new features and product enhancements.

Do you have a Change Request for this and ETA ?

Unfortunately at this time, I don’t have a specific timeline to share about this feature. However, I’d be happy to shed a bit more light on the status of this feature- this is currently marked as “Future Consideration”, which means that while the product development team isn’t currently working on this they may revisit in the future. We’re absolutely still reviewing every comment and piece of feedback that comes through this thread.

Every comment and use case shared is incredibly valuable to show just how valuable this would be!

Amber, Thanks you for a quick response.

So, a lot of companies have tons of Visio diagrams that they need to maintain an modify constantly.

When importing Visio document, all the shapes are categorized as custom shape which does not support “change Shape” function ( I am not sure why Lucid does that ) so we are having to maintain Visio application so that we can continually change.

Just think about the business opportunity for Lucid if the imported Visio document shapes have support “Change Shape” functionality.

Agree with the above justification. Not only for converting from visio or other legacy diagrams, but after spending time formatting and providing text content for a given shape and then realize want it to be a different shape but with same content. The only way now is to create the new shape from scratch then copy and paste? Do that a bunch of times and you just wasted valuable time.

Please re-consider the feature.
