Ability to safely integrate ITGlue embedded links

Currently, the only way to integrate Lucid with ITGlue is through the Lucid embed feature. However, this embed functionality is directly tied to publishing the Lucid document, and there is no option to decouple these two actions. As a result, documents must be publicly published in order to be embedded, which is not desirable for many teams that prioritize security and controlled access.

Requested Functionality

Provide the ability to use the ITGlue integration without publishing the document.
Allow the generation of secure, non‑public embed links, or offer an alternative integration method that enables ITGlue to reference Lucid diagrams without exposing them publicly.
Enable improved access‑control options, ensuring only authorized internal users can view the embedded content.

Enhances the security of internal diagrams and documentation.
Helps organizations comply with internal security and compliance policies.
Provides greater flexibility in using Lucid and ITGlue together without mandatory public sharing.

Thanks for the detailed write-up, Rob! And apologies for the delayed response.

We don’t have this integration our on roadmap right now, but there is another option that may cover most of what you’re asking for.

Lucid’s Embed API supports cookie-based embeds, which work differently from the publish-and-embed flow. Here’s how they map to your requests:

Using ITGlue without publishing the document: Cookie-based embeds don’t require publishing. You register an OAuth2 client in the Lucid developer portal, then point an iframe at the standard Lucid document URL along with your client ID.
Secure, non-public embed links: The embedded document can only be viewed by people who already have permission to view it in Lucid. Anyone without access sees a prompt to request it instead of the diagram.
Access control for internal users only: Embeds respect each viewer’s existing Lucid permissions, including in the optional embedded editor mode. A user with view-only access gets view-only access in the embed.

You or your company would have to build this yourself, since it isn’t a packaged ITGlue integration. However, it could be relatively quick. We have two guides to get you started:

A few caveats:

We can’t guarantee this works with ITGlue. We aren’t experts in their platform, so we can’t say whether it supports what’s needed, such as embedding a custom iframe. Please confirm with ITGlue directly.
ITGlue’s domain would need to be registered as an authorized embedding domain on your Lucid OAuth2 client, and the page must send a referrer header when it loads the iframe.
Every viewer needs a Lucid account with access to the document. Cookie-based embeds can’t show diagrams to people without one.
