We’re excited to spotlight one of the members of our Lucid Legend program: @JMC 🎉. James Croftson is a Technical Manager and Founding Director in the Energy / Engineering industries. We want to highlight a few specific things that make James “legendary!”🌟

  • James has earned 3 badges and earned over 300 points in the Lucid Legends program!
  • James is a truly active Legend who consistently enriches our seminars and working sessions by sharing his technical expertise, offering insightful feedback, and collaborating seamlessly with his peers.
  • In 2010, James sea-kayaked 3500km around the coast of mainland Britain in just under 20 weeks. Having already cycled east-coast-to-west-coast in a day, and also end-to-end (John o'Groats to Land's End), this made him the first person to go 'across, down and around' Britain under his own steam!

Check out James’s badges, post responses, and stats on his profile. You can follow him to receive updates on his posts!

Spotlight Story:

What do you like best about the Lucid Legends program?

Having visibility of the upcoming features before they are launched is a great way to anticipate the incoming changes/improvements/new features. It's also helpful to have direct engagement with the developers building those changes, with opportunity to: provide feedback; suggest new perspectives; and/or challenge the thinking. Seeing/hearing from other Legends is also helpful in terms of peer-to-peer learning and sharing of ideas.

How has the Lucid Legends program helped you develop professionally?

Lucid makes it extremely easy to make complex things look much simpler, because of how easy it is to use, and because of there being a myriad of professionally-developed templates ready-to-go. This means more of my time can be spent focusing on WHAT I'm trying to communicate (converting my thoughts into the content on screen in a clear and logical way), rather than HOW to get the software to represent what I'm thinking. The Lucid team has clearly put a lot of thought and development time into how to make the tools easy to use.

How have you used Lucid in your role or how has it contributed to the success of a project?

I've used Lucid a lot in various roles. When I joined a new company as staff 3 years ago, I brought knowledge of Lucid with me, and (eventually) managed to persuade the team to take out a group license. The number of Lucid users across the company has since doubled, even though the team size has not. The diagrams I, and we, have created have become central to the way we communicate with our teams about (very many) internal processes and project-delivery workflows. In parallel, when I started my own company and bought a new computer, a Lucid account was one of the first two licences I organised (the other was a piece of bespoke scheduling software). Microsoft came later - this illustrates how highly I rate the Lucid eco-system of tools.

What is your favorite Lucid feature and what do you like about it?

It is difficult to highlight one individual feature from Lucid, because the point is they all work seamlessly together: switching between tools (e.g. Chart and Spark, etc.) However, if pressed to pick one, it would be the ability to assign Actions (i.e. to 'Activate') different parts of diagrams, to show/hide different layers, and/or import new data at the click of a single button. This is because when explaining a complicated subject, it can be overwhelming for new audience members to see a huge diagram filled with loads of details straight away. The Action/Activate functionality allows a high-level overview - for example a simple start-to-finish summary - to be presented first-up, and then clicking on each individual step within that overview allows the next level of detail to be expanded, one step at a time, directly on the page. This one-step-at-a-time approach, whilst retaining the initial summary knowledge of the overall journey being embarked upon, really helps to walk-through complicated ideas with people who are new to a subject.

Join the Lucid Legends program to shape Lucid's future, boost your career, and deepen your product knowledge! As a Lucid Legend, you'll share feedback, showcase expertise, and advocate for our tools. Enjoy insider access, exclusive events, and exciting rewards.

Incredible @JMC! I’m feeling inspired to see where my diagrams today would benefit from using an Action 💪
