Format shapes with Property Editing

We’re excited to share an update designed to give you a cleaner workspace and more room to work! Property editing is available to all Free and Individual Lucidchart users.

What’s changing

We’re replacing the static formatting toolbar in the top header. Your editing controls now live in a streamlined right-side properties panel and a floating menu right next to your shapes. Here’s what to expect:

Properties panel: For advanced formatting, expand the right panel to customize your shape’s details. Property controls include:

• Fill color
• Line stroke and border options (color, thickness, style, and endpoints)
• Text formatting
• Object size and orientation
• Attributes (emoji reactions, tags, links, actions, icon sets, comments, notes, alt text, paint format, and connection points)

Floating context menu: Click any shape to reveal quick editing options directly beneath it. You can reposition this menu anywhere on your canvas by hovering your cursor over the menu and using the 6-dot handle on the left. Quick actions include:

• Lucid AI prompts
• Fill and line color options
• Text formatting
• Emoji reactions and links
• Lock/unlock controls
• Quick-open button for the main Properties panel
