Text boxes disappearing in Lucidchart

I am experiencing a recurring issue with older Lucidchart documents where standalone text boxes are automatically disappearing.

When I open an older document, an existing standalone text box used as the document header disappears completely. The object itself is removed, not just the visible text. If I make a copy/duplicate of the affected document, the same thing happens when the copied document is opened.

I am also unable to add a new standalone Text Block to any of these affected documents. When I drag a Text Block onto the canvas, I can see the “Type something” box while dragging, but as soon as I release the mouse, the entire text object immediately disappears.

I have completed the following troubleshooting:

  • New Lucidchart documents work normally and allow standalone Text Blocks.
  • The issue occurs across multiple older documents.
  • Duplicating an affected document does not resolve the problem.
  • The documents are in Draft status and are not locked.
  • “Unlock All” is not available.
  • The issue persists in Chrome Incognito mode.
  • I cleared and monitored both the Console and Network tabs in Chrome Developer Tools while reproducing the issue. No new console errors or failed network requests occur when the Text Block disappears.
  • Other objects work normally. For example, I can add a rectangle, move it, and it remains on the canvas.
  • I can also type text inside the rectangle, and that text remains.
  • The problem appears to be specifically related to standalone text objects in older documents.

Has anyone experienced this before? I have submitted a support ticket but have not heard back yet. The most concerning part is that simply opening an affected older document causes an existing standalone header text box to disappear. We are using Lucid to create new EMS guidelines at work and I am concerned about continuing to open/edit these documents and continue losing content, but yet still need to get this project finished.

Hi @jkprelude, thank you for posting in the Community, I’ll be happy to help!

It’s possible that WebGL is causing an issue with your graphics card. Try turning WebGL off by going to View > Rendering > Use WebGL and unchecking the option.

For more information on WebGL, check out these resources:

If this does not solve the issue, could you please let me know whether copying and pasting the content of a document into a new blank board and then using a text box helps?

If not, could you please share a temporary Document Support PIN for this document? This will help me take a closer look at what’s going on. This PIN is safe to post in this thread because it is only accessible by members of the Lucid support staff. You can find steps for generating a Support PIN in this  Help Center article

Thanks for your help and patience!
