New Mermaid user here - I want Mermaid code to incorporate iconography from the available shape libraries (ex: AWS service icons), instead of only generic shapes like rectangles. How can I best accomplish this?

Hi @Andrew Rinard, thanks for this question, and thank you @aparrish for sharing these initial resources. I wanted to confirm that at this time, using shape libraries apart from the standard ones you noted isn’t currently supported in Lucidchart. But, we’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products. If you’re willing to share, we’d love to hear more details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience within this thread. I’ve also converted this post to an idea so that it’s visible to others within the Product Feedback section of the community - from here, they can upvote it and add details of their own.

Finally, for more information on how Lucid manages feedback via this community, take a look at this post:

@Andrew Rinard the AWS 2025 shape library should already be available in Lucidchart. Since mermaid deals with diagrams, I feel that this thread would best answer your question:

My own use case is experimenting with agentic AI to write the Mermaid code for me, including appropriate AWS shapes.

Thank you @Jase for adding your use case and feedback to this thread! I certainly see how this would be useful and I appreciate you taking the time to let us know what you’d like to see.

My use case is the same as @Jase - use of appropriate AWS shapes is a requirement for my signal flow diagramming needs, and unfortunately I can’t use Mermaid code for diagramming until AWS shapes are supported. In an ideal world, shapes would be identifiable in the Mermaid code with unique descriptors or id numbers, and the library of those descriptors made available for agentic AI reference.

Because that functionality is missing, I’m primarily using non-Lucid diagramming products, but want to return to Lucid.

How do I submit a product feature request?

Hi @Andrew Rinard, thank you for these details! I can see just how important this is for your work, and I appreciate you taking the time to let us know what is essential for you.

You’re in the right spot- this thread is already a feature request/idea, housed within the Product Feedback section of the community! Our product teams review comments like yours in this space as they continue researching new features and product enhancements. This thread you’re on is the best place to stay up to date on any news regarding AWS shapes being supported in Mermaid diagrams in Lucid.

If you’re interested in leaving additional feedback on other features, you can always create an idea, which will go right into this same Product Feedback section as a new post!

Hi @Andrew Rinard, my name is Vera and I am on the Product team at Lucid. Our teams are currently looking into our Diagram as Code feature and the support for mermaid. I would love to ask you a few questions about your requirement as we’re actively doing research. Would you be willing to jump on a brief call with me? Here’s a direct link for scheduling: https://calendly.com/lucid-software/lucid-research-mermaid

Thank you!
