Hi! I’ve been trying to make study charts for an alternate English alphabet (Shavian), which is defined in unicode (ex.  𐑖𐑱𐑝𐑾𐑯). Unfortunately, even after uploading various fonts with Shavian support, LucidChart refuses to display Shavian code points. Each character shows up as a black box or not at all depending on the font.

Is there a better way to handle these type of characters? or is my only option uploading images?

Hi @tjsangster

There is a limitation in displaying Unicode characters that fall outside the Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP), including unique alphabets like Shavian.

  • Despite uploading supporting fonts, these characters may appear as black boxes or remain invisible. Unfortunately, there's no built-in solution within Lucidchart to overcome this issue.
  • A reliable workaround is to create the desired text in a compatible program, export it as an image, and then upload the image to your Lucidchart document.

This technical constraint is due to text rendering engine, which currently doesn't support surrogate pairs or non-BMP code points.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
