I feel like I'm missing something but not figuring it out.

I'm importing a lot of network hardware stencils... they look like this

I need a label to go with them when I place them in my diagram for easy identification. But I don't see how to get a text box automatically generated with the stencil's name or at least how to copy and paste the stencil name into a text box.

Is there really no way?

Hi Russell thanks for posting in the Lucidchart Community! It is currently not possible to automatically add a named text box to a shape. However we're always looking for ways to improve Lucidchart and your feedback is the best way for us to do that. Would you mind adding your idea to our feature request form? Ideas submitted to this form are passed on to the product development team for their consideration.

As a workaround I would recommend the following steps:

  1. Add a text box below the stencil in your canvas.

  2. Edit the text to reflect the name of your stencil.

  3. Select the stencil and the text box and group them.

  4. Drag them to a new shape library.

This will allow you to use those labelled stencil from this new shape library. The gif below illustrates these steps:

Hope this helps!
