Claiming Free Access to Lucid through Canvas:

For Existing Lucid Users

All Canvas teachers and students can now receive free access to the full Lucid Visual Collaboration Suite through Canvas.

To receive your free access through Canvas,

  1. Your education institution must have enabled the Lucid integration
  2. You cannot have an active, paid Individual or Team plan with Lucid.
    1. If you do, you cannot connect this paid Lucid plan to Canvas.
  3. You cannot be a non-teaching employee; you must be assigned an “educator” or “student” role in at least one of your Canvas courses/instances

If you are an Instructor or Student with an active, paid Individual or Team plan with Lucid and would like to claim the free access provided through Canvas, you will need to either…

  1. Follow THESE STEPS to cancel your plan.
    1. Note: You can cancel your subscription at any time and the change will be made at the end of your current billing cycle.
    2.  After your plan change is made at the end of your billing cycle, return to Canvas and connect your Lucid account to Canvas. This will now automatically grant you free access.

  1. Use an email not affiliated with your existing Lucid plan to connect to Lucid through the Canvas integration.
    1. Note: During your initial connection in Canvas to Lucid, when you see a message like the one below that displays the email recognized by the integration, select “switch account” to connect to a different email address.

Hi,

I’m trying to figure out how to get content from an exiting (paid) Lucid account into a new account that will be provided through our Canvas LMS.

If a teacher in our school has been using a paid Lucid account for years and now must cancel that account before using the same email address for the new (Canvas associated) Lucid account, how can they prevent losing their existing Lucid account content?

Thanks to anyone who may have the answer!

Paul

Hey Paul, reach out to me through email and I can help you out this this.  vcicero@lucidchart.com

Hi. I am just getting started with a Canvas Free for Teacher account and am curious about Lucid integration. I followed the instructions and signed up for Lucid through Canvas and can use it. However, it is just on the basic ‘free’ plan, not enterprise like is shown in your videos. Is the enterprise version not available for free-for-teacher Canvas accounts? If it is, how do I activate it?

Thanks!

Kim

Hi @kconant, thank you for continuing this post! If you haven’t already, I recommend following the steps outlined in this Help Center article to connect your Lucid account with Canvas.

Would you mind giving that a try and let me know if you still experience issues? Thank you!

Leianne,

Thank you for your reply. I did follow the steps but don’t recall ever getting asked the age of my students. And like I said, I am connected...I just don’t have access to all the features. It has me connected the limited free plan.

Kim

Hi @kconant, thank you for the update and sorry for the trouble! It does look like your are currently on a free Lucid account. To confirm, do you have a Educator or Student role assigned within Canvas?  Users without a Teacher or Student role in Canvas will not receive the automatic upgrade to the full Lucid Education Suite for free.

Would you mind reaching out to your internal IT or application team to confirm this? Please let me know if you are assigned this role and still see the same issue. Thanks!

Leianne,

Yes, I am in Canvas as a Teacher. I am using the free-for-teacher version of Canvas so I don’t know if that is causing the issue.

Thank you,

Kim

Hi @kconant, thank you for confirming that information! Our team confirmed that you were not upgraded to the full Lucid Education Suite because free-for-teacher version of Canvas currently qualifies for a free Lucid account.

If you have an educational email address, I recommend checking out this Help Center article for steps on how to upgrade to a general free Educational account.

I’m sorry the confusion and any inconvenience this may cause. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I am assigned a teacher role in my Canvas course, but I only have access to the free non-teaching Lucid account. I’ve looked through comments here, and I don’t see instructions on what to do except to contact my IT department. Is that what I need to do?

Thanks.

Misti Brock

Hi @MistiBrock, thank you for continuing this thread and sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this! To confirm, are you using the free-for-teacher version of Canvas? If so, it is expected that you will not receive the free upgrade. If that is not the case, could you please follow the steps outlined in this Help Center article to connect your Lucid account with Canvas?

Please let me know if you see any error messages or if you have any questions!
