Is there a preview stored inside the confluence page in case Lucidchart is not available anymore or is the plugin always used to render the content? I ask because of fear of being too depending on third party plugins for our organisation.

Unfortunately there is no way to store previews of diagrams inside confluence pages unless you are using the Lucidchart plugin. I am sorry for any inconvenience.
