Hi Lucidchart Community,

Previously, when I clicked on a diagram in the Documents view, it would open in a new tab. However, now it opens in the same tab, and I can't find a way to change this behavior.

Is there a setting or option in Lucidchart that allows documents to open in a new tab by default when clicked from the Documents view? If not, is there a workaround or any browser-specific solution I could use?

I frequently switch between multiple documents and having them open in the same tab disrupts my workflow. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Hi @Tushar K, thank you for posting in the Lucid Community! You are correct - your documents should be opening in a new tab. I can understand how this feature not working properly would impact your workflow, I’m happy to help! To begin, can you please try the below two methods and let me know if they work for you?

When in the ‘My Documents’ view, select the ‘Open’ button as shown below.

Another method is to instead select the three dots at the bottom right. Once the menu opens, select ‘Open’ at the top of the menu. Either of these methods should have your document opening in a new tab.

A few additional browser troubleshooting tips to try:

  • Make sure you're using the most recent version of your browser.
  • Lucid is optimized for Google Chrome. For best performance, we recommend using Chrome.
  • Open your document in a different window if your page is running out of memory.
  • Open your document in a Chrome incognito window. Doing so disables extensions and clears cache and cookies, which often improves performance. This may also help you identify an extension causing an issue with Lucid performance.

If none of the steps above work for you, please let me know and I would be happy to take a closer look for you! Let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns!

Thanks for getting back to me, I can use the above techniques to open in new tab what I am after is to have my document open in new tab with a single mouse click. This was working until recently. As an additional info, I have another lucid account where the document does open in a new tab on a single mouse click. So this has to do with some setting within lucidchart

Hi @Tushar K, thanks for following up! I’m happy to hear that the above workaround is somewhat helpful, but I can understand the continued trouble when attempting to open your document with just a mouse click. I’m unable to reproduce this on my end, and it appears that this may be an account-specific issue.

For that reason, I have converted this thread to a private support ticket and directing this to our support team to get you taken care of. The team works through tickets in the order they are received, and you can expect a quick response to your email associated with your Lucid account. Please refer to that email for further correspondence.

I also have this issue - was there a resolution here.  I don’t see any options for this is settings.

Hi @Collymitch, are you having trouble opening your Lucid documents in a new tab? Can you confirm that you’ve tried the above troubleshooting steps? Those would be the best first steps in determining the issue.

Additionally, can you confirm whether selecting ‘Open’ as shown below in the ‘My Documents’ view works for you?

I would suggest a browser and extension check. Sometimes, browser extensions or settings can interfere with the default behavior. If you haven't already, you might want to test the behavior in a different browser or an incognito window. Additionally, check if any recent updates to your browser or changes to its settings may be impacting the behavior.

Hi Ambar,

I can confirm when I use the open button it opens within the SAME tab.

I’m using Chrome but MS edge, chrome incognito mode and even private mode in firefox ALL have the same behaviour.  That said, we do have some security extensions enabled across all browsers, even in incognitio modes so they may well be the root cause.

When I launch the URL in my mobile phone firefox browser with private browsing it is the same tab behaviour (no extensions installed).

When I use the the sub menu option to open the file - it does open within a new tab (also works in the other browsers).

It’s ok for a workaround but I would prefer to have the original process.

Thanks,

Colm

Hi @Collymitch, thank you for getting back to me with that additional information! My team and I are unable to reproduce this issue on our end, so I do believe your enabled security extensions may be the cause here.

However, I’ve reported this internally and will update this thread with any additional information I hear back! I apologize for the inconvenience. I am glad to hear you have a workaround in the meantime!

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

I am experiencing the same issues reported by the above users. The workarounds also work for me but are a step backwards as far as usability. I am using the latest version of Chrome, with all current updates, on Windows 11 Pro.

I have also noticed the the “Save” option, which used to show up under the File tab when a document is open, no longer exists. In the past, I used this option to save changes during extensive modifications to process maps.
