I am trying to figure out how to link a document to a step in a diagram. I see lots of posts on importing a diagram into a document and that is the opposite of what I want to do.
I have Word documents that are detailed work instructions on how to perform a step in the diagram. I would like to be able to select the step and get the Word (or Google) doc.

Thanks for posting in the community. You can do this by using our links functionality and choosing "link to external page." From there just insert the published/sharing URL for your document.
