Unfortunately it is not currently possible to expand and collapse subcategories/child topics in spider diagrams. If this is a functionality you'd like to potentially see added to Lucidchart in the future please share in the product feedback area of the community. Our team uses this to categorize like requests from users and present them to our Product team.

As a workaround I would recommend using Layers so that just the sections you want to focus on at a given time will be visible. With the use of Hotspots you can toggle between the layers to see just the sections you want at a given time.
