After importing a document from LucidChart (in either VSXD or VDX format) into Visio, the connection points of lines to shapes are not preserved. The lines appear visually, but are not actually connected to any shapes.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are there settings in Lucid or Visio that I should be selecting in order to avoid the loss?

Hi @ashleyturner

I believe this one is a known limitation, While Lucid chart does a solid job visually maintaining diagram layout, connection logic often doesn’t carry over in the exported Visio file.

We can also wait to know from other products experts from the community for any other suggestions.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards

Hi @ashleyturner, thank you for your post! To confirm, you are experiencing this when exporting your document as VSDX and VDX file types and viewing it in Visio, is this correct?

In my testing, I was able to reproduce the behaviour with VDX files however the VSDX file preserved line connections correctly. Would you mind sharing a brief description of the features you used in your document (eg. flow chart shapes, org chart)? What version of Visio are you using to view the files?

Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions!

@Leianne C That’s correct. The caveat here being that the initial documents we are importing to Lucid are also Visio files. So the process is VSDX import > Lucid Edit > VSDX export. The Visio files we import to Lucid are using basic flow chart shapes (decision diamonds, process rectangles, terminators, documents). When imported to Lucid, the connections are there. It’s only when we export back to VSDX or VDX and our client opens them in Visio that they stop functioning.

Our client is using Visio 2016 Professional.

Hi @ashleyturner, thank you for sharing that detail! Just a small correction to my previous response, it was VDX files that are preserving the line connections - sorry for the confusion.

I tried the process you described and unfortunately was not able to reproduce the issue you are seeing. It seems we may need to take a closer look at some example files to help investigate the issue.

I’ve gone ahead and moved this conversation over to a private support ticket. Please keep an eye out for an email from Lucid Support! Let me know if you have any questions or if you don’t see this email. Thanks!
