I used to be able to use links to create the following object, with thumbnail, which when clicked activated a modal dialog.

Currently, this is as close as I can get.  This opens another Tab.

Is there a way to achieve the creation of an object with the modal/pop-up behavior?

Hi Kdrumm,

The default behavior on the embedded links changed a while back. Now that middle symbol on the second image (the 4 diagonal arrows “expanding”) should open the link in the same tab then have a back button in the top left and have much faster loading.
The button for the modal behavior you are looking for is now in the contextual menu in Lucidspark and the right panel in Lucidchart.

Let me know if you have more trouble!

Thanks for the quick reply, Lance!

I might be missing something here, but if I publish a page and the audience has viewer permissions only, they do not have access to the button for the modal behavior.

That’s right, only the “open in same tab” experience is available for view-only users.

If you want to leave feedback requesting a way for view-only users to use the modal experience, follow the instructions in this post.

We would love to have your feedback! This feature request flow will get it to the product manager who owns the feature.

It actually already works that way for objects created before the change happened.  New objects use the new behavior.  I would expect all objects to work the same way.  In other words, I have diagrams which contain new and old objects and they behave differently.  I’m more concerned about the consistency as opposed to which of the two behaviors is the default.

Ah, I see. When we update default behaviors like that, we usually try to leave the behavior of existing objects the same (unless it’s a bug) to avoid disrupting users.

What do you think of the workaround to copy the old links and re-paste them in the diagrams with a mix to get the new behavior on all of them? If there are only a few, that’s the fastest way to get consistency.

Unfortunately there are quite a few.  Too many for me to update all the templates before their used again so we’ll just deal with the inconsistent behavior until I can chip away at updating the old objects.

Sorry for the inconsistency, and thank you for understanding and working around it.
