And then I tried to re-import this CSV into Lucid Chart in order to get the same Mind Map -- this is for me to test the import works so I can work around this template and add more things to it:
I do it through Shapes > Import data > Process Diagram > select the CSV
but what I am getting is this type of design instead of the original very nice design Mind Map:
Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong or what’s missing, please?
Thank you!

interested as well to find out how to do this, I tried something similar but had same issue : |
same here, following
Hi @relloo001@jasonstww and @jossfyttu, thank you for posting in the community and continuing this thread! I recommend taking a look at this community post, in which one of our product managers explains options here:
Hope this helps! Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.
@Leianne C I had a look at the post you mentioned and tried to do something similar but still without success. Basically I have a CSV with some data and I want to make a Mind Map based on them.
So I did this: created a New File from Template:
then I selected Mind Map:
Then this is the CSV file I have which is not a template, it’s just the nodes in the Mind Map and their Parents and the main Parent for all Parent nodes:
I then clicked on Import Data > Selected Data linking:
and I got to this where I selected the Unique values:
and in the end I had this:
But even so with importing the CSV data, I can’t seem to match the Mind Map template and that data is just there.
So ideally I am looking to get the same Mind Map template to use and when I import the CSV data to auto-generate the Mind Map based on the CSV Data.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
PS: That’s why I went backwards trying to create a template Mind Map first and then try to import it but that did not work. So if I can do it with Import CSV data like above, and create a Mind Map based on the CSV data, it would be super AMAZING!
Hi @relloo001! Just jumping in as Leianne is currently offline.
Sorry for the confusion, but the image you included in your first post is actually expected for the shape data CSV import/export feature. Only shapes from the Flowchart shape library are supported, and style/ formatting elements (such as font and colour) are also not included, so this will probably not be the best feature to use if you’re wanting to exactly replicate the original mind map you created.
If you’re primarily wanting to use the CSV import for templating, you might want to consider making your original mind map document a Lucid template instead. See our Templates Help Centre article for more details.
If you’re interesting in quickly generating mind maps from text, I’d also recommend checking out our awesome Generate Diagram feature, which supports creating mind maps from a text description: Generate a diagram with AI in Lucidchart
