Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry you're having trouble with this. If you're currently subscribed as a Free user there may be restrictions on the types of features you're attempting to use. You should be notified by a pop-up that you're using "Premium Features" if this is the case. Our Account Types article details what features are available to the various account types. 

If you're not using premium features in your document and are still unable to type please follow the steps described in Basic Troubleshooting. If none of these steps help please contact us here and include the URL to your document and a screenshot of the issue that's occurring.
