Previously, when inserting a chart into a google slide presentation, it would only contain the chart itself with some margin. It would be roughly shaped to the size of the chart. This worked as recently as last week.

Now it adds a substantial amount of vertical margin on both the top and bottom as it seems to export the image as a square. Cropping within slides doesn’t really work here.

Was this an intended change? Bug?

That does seem to be a bug since it worked in the past. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please read this post so that it can be directed to the appropriate personnel.

Hi @datasage, thank you for posting in the community and @aparrish for sharing our details on how to report a bug! I was able to reproduce the behaviour you described and am currently checking with our development team to confirm if this is expected.

In the meantime, you should be able to use the ‘Crop image’ option found in Google Slides to crop any inserted diagrams to the desired shape.

I’ll be sure to update this thread with more information as soon as I hear back from them. Please feel free to let us know if you have any additional questions!

@Leianne C on behalf of the original poster, I would just like to follow up with you. You said you would check in with the development team.

Hi @aparrish, thank you for following up and apologies for the delay! I’ve heard back from our development team and it looks like this is related to a recent change. While I’m not able to share any timelines, I can confirm that the team is working on improving this experience.

We will continue to share updates in this thread as soon as we have more details. In the meantime, I would recommend using the ‘Crop image’ option found in Google Slides to help crop the inserted diagrams.

Thank you for your patience and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions!

Hi @datasage, good news! I have heard back from our development team, and it sounds like the issue you experienced should now be resolved. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Please let me know if you continue to experience issues or have further questions.
