“What does ChatGPT actually do? And do I care?”

In my past life working in an innovation center, this is a common question I would get from executives.  This was not exclusive to ChatGPT. In fact,  replace ChatGPT with just about any other technology that’s seeing a lot of hype at the moment (e.g. “The Metaverse”, AR/VR, Robotics, IoT, blockchain/crypto… the list goes on).

What they are really asking is this: What value does this new technology actually have for my business? Where can we apply it to get the most benefit?

It’s a good question, and it’s the right one to start with when you’re investigating any new technology - whether it’s for your team, your customers, or your company / organization.

We’ve developed a Technology Value Mapping template to help teams come together and brainstorm the path forward more effectively. Try it out and let us know what you think!

Thank you for the information @Patrick Saul

You're absolutely right—when evaluating new technologies like ChatGPT, the key question isn’t just what it does, but rather how it can provide real value to a business.

The Technology Value Mapping template sounds like a fantastic tool to bridge the gap between innovation and practical application. I’ve seen firsthand how structured brainstorming can help teams identify use cases, streamline decision-making, and ensure technology investments align with business goals. In my experience, it's been particularly impactful for process automation, knowledge management, and enhancing real-time collaboration.

Looking forward to trying out the template and learning more!
