When using assisted layout, it would be nice to be able to merge/span shapes across multiple lanes,  to create lines that could be used for instance as Phase title in a business flow.

Hi, @Jeanseb!  I’m a senior product manager working with the team building this feature.

I’d love to hear more about your workflow!  Do you have any examples of how the ideal end-state would look like?

Is this mostly to add a label or divider across your swimlanes?

Hi @Jeanseb, thank you for posting in the Lucid Community and for providing this feedback! We’re very interested in your feedback and committed to continually improving our products.

At this time, you can span shapes, frames, containers, or swim lanes over multiple cells in an assisted layout grid. You can select the shape and from the contextual panel in Lucidchart, or the menu bar shown below in Lucidspark, select the option to span horizontally, vertically, or both directions. For more information on that, I recommend checking out this resource!

Is this what you’re hoping to achieve?

Hi there,

It does note work on my end. See example:

When trying to extend Phase 1 shape over lanes 2, 3 & 4, it does not let me do it.

Thanks

Hi @Jeanseb, thank you for providing that visual! It looks like you’re working with a swim lane - is that correct?

I’ve verified with our product team and you’re absolutely right- at this time, spanning shapes across multiple swim lane lanes using assisted layout is not currently supported in Lucid.

My apologies for any confusion here! The portion that is currently supported is spanning shapes across multiple assisted layout cells within the same swim lane lane.

Thank you again for your detailed feedback here! We encourage anyone else who’s interested in this to upvote this post and share any additional details about your use case or what you’d like to see in this experience.
