When presenting an org chart it is difficult to navigate via expand/collapse buttons as there is no shortcut and it is not easy to quickly collapse/expand a section.

(1) Create a read-only mode, which enables the expand/collapse functionality

(2) Create a shortcut that toggles expand/collapse and also the selection of an org chart element for simpler navigation

(3) Enable expand/collapse functionality in view-only mode

Hi all,

We have released the ability to collapse/expand org chart nodes in read-only mode. Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Gordon

Yes--It’s really ridiculous that you can only expand or collapse charts in edit mode. Usually, if you’re making something collapsible, it’s because you’re working with a large amount of data that would not be readable if it’s all expanded. And if working with a large amount of data, you likely don’t want to share it widely in edit mode, for fear of something getting messed up. There really needs to be an option to expand/collapse in view mode. It’s a deal breaker for me to not be able to do this.

Is it possible to publish as a file in a portal or share with the “read-only” expand + collapse functionality?

Hi @DC Gunnia, thanks for adding to this thread. Would you mind clarifying whether you are embedding a Lucid document in a page? If so, those who come across your embedded document should be able to interact with it in the following ways, as described in this article:

  • Open in Lucid
  • View in full-screen mode
  • Show notes, Show hotspots, Use WebGL
  • Toggle pages in tab, thumbnail, and list mode
  • Explore document frame
  • Zoom in/out of document
  • Interact with actions and layers

Hi @Ambar D - I’m thinking of two output options. Happy to provide more insights as needed.
1) PDF file that has hyperlinks (preferred)
2) HTML file to open via any browser:

  1. I have multiple department level hierarchy views that need rolls up to “Director” at the top. To create this view, I’m splitting Google sheet from a master HR report into Lucid via Org Chart import process.
    1. Issue: Some departments have over 50 staff members with Assistant Directors, Supervisors, Coordinator, etc. Upper management (decision makers and non Lucid users) needs user friendly viewable file instead of a PDF that is not readable on first glance.
    2. Manual work: color coding for each staff member by type (contractor, part time and full time employees). The HR report has the definition of how each staff is funded.
  2. Division level view rolls to an org head that owns budget/headcount, etc. Typical staff volume is 150 to 400 staff members with a variety of positions/titles, etc. How can I display this for entire agency using a HR report for over 12k staff?

I need a function!! The fact that you can only expand or collapse charts if you share it on “edit & share”. I am working with a big amount of data (and for people who doesn't know the structure and what to look for - it is unreadable and chaotic) . To give the entire organisation acces to edit - will quickly ruin the structure - because people will accidently touch something they shouldn't. This function (the grey arrow) would be ideal.
