Hi everyone! I’m a Product Manager at Lucid and my team is exploring options for Mermaid support. I would love to talk to users who use Mermaid today to learn from you and build to your needs. If anyone here is open to a 30 minute conversation, please reply or like this post and I can reach out to you. Thank you!

I would love to see Mermaid support for process diagrams. Many tools can generate Mermaid code, and being able to bring those diagrams into Lucid for further editing would be awesome. If it could be bidirectional, that would be even better. I use Obsidian and being able to transfer some version of the Lucidchart as an editable diagram in Obsidian would be amazing.

I am open to further conversations about this feature.

It would be great if Lucidchart supported Mermaid (https://mermaid-js.github.io/mermaid/#/) for creation of UML Diagrams.

100% Agreed. I really need this for presenting diagrams in Lucidchart. Presenting them through Github is not exactly pretty. At this point most of the diagrams in the organizations we work with are generated through automation, and mermaid helps keep that up to date and dynamically updated. Lucidchart becomes a tool for presenting to executives and over meetings and lets us brainstorm together with ideas, changes, etc.

Lucidchart integration with Mermaid would make it more useful, and further integration with Github, with perhaps pointing to a repo to pick up the latest diagram would be a gamechanger.

Hi Chloe, let’s talk, if you’re still looking for input. If you let me know what info you’re looking for, I’ll gather it from my org’s team.

We’re definitely interested in this option. We use Lucid since long, but our developers want to maintain architecture primarily with Mermaid in a git-repo for obvious reason. While we are able to use these Mermaid-files in for example Confluence (with PlantUML), we miss possibilities to integrate with Lucidchart. The strength would to able to use different ways to diagram for different stakeholders. For me Lucid would ideally even function to enhance Mermaid-based diagrams.

  • Can read Mermaid and render it inside Lucid
  • Can be edited (while maintaining Mermaid style code) even if it’s just for positioning elements
  • Could export to Mermaid? (not sure we would even need this, we’re not looking to replace Lucid in any way :))

I am excited to share that Lucid has released the ability to create a diagram using mermaid code syntax! We support 8 different diagram types including: flowchart, sequence, class, state, C4, gantt, and entity relationship diagrams. Try it out for yourself or learn more here

You will still be able to create UML diagrams leveraging our UML markup features.

Thanks Lucid for delivering this feature. Greatly appreciated to see it appear in Lucid 2 weeks ago! I’m happy with the initial delivery, however I already got feedback from my team asking for integration with GIT. It’s never done, is it :) So basically, render files from a repo.

Hi @PascalO, thank you for letting us know how it’s going! We’re all ears for your feedback now that this feature is live. Would you possibly be willing to create this as a new feature request in our Product Feedback space? This will allow us to better manage this specific enhancement and share updates on it. Thanks again for all your time spent helping us improve!

Very nice. Will be testing this soon. Mermaid + GitHub integration would be sweet.

@Ethan I regularly connect Claude and ChatGPT with GitHub, then I ask it to build Mermaid code for various types of diagrams. Then I ask Claude or ChatGPT to pass that Mermaid code to the Lucid MCP to build the diagrams in Lucid.

Currently, I may have to do a second or third iteration until the LLM produces Mermaid code that Lucid can handle.

Better Lucid Mermaid UML support should improve the quality of results from this process; so that diagrams from GitHub can be produced faster.

@chrisklaus thanks for your feedback! I’ve seen similar comments from other users, and I’d like to gain further insight into what’s making that pass-off from an LLM to Lucid diagram via Lucid MCP inconsistent.

I'd love to dig into this with you more if you're open to it. Feel free to email me at egrundvig@lucidchart.com and we'll find a quick time to chat. Either way, thank you again for the thoughtful response!

We’re happy to announce that you can now generate editable Lucid shapes from your Mermaid syntax! 🎉 Copy your syntax and paste it into your Lucid document. The result will be native, editable shapes that you can format and move around freely!
