Because Lucidchart still lacks the fine motor movement and rendering capabilities of Visio proper - as it relates to stencils and shapes - I built the shapes I needed in Visio and took screenshots of them at scale. (I'm creating a diagram of network devices wherein I'm using the manufacturers' actual device stencil. Juniper Cisco Dell etc.)

I then saved the images as PNG and imported them into Lucidchart.

Otherwise directly using stencils and shapes in Lucidchart tends to create display issues where parts of the image are missing when you deploy a shape etc. :(

What I need now is to be able to create a CONNECTION POINT in the context of how they're used in Visio. Not at the edge of the object as I keep seeing recommended but PROPER connection points that you can place on an any area of an image or shape - in exactly the same way that you're able to with Visio.

What I'm trying to do is "run cable" from an interface on one device to an interface on another device in the diagram.

I'm feeling like there is no actual way to do this...as I have looked pretty thoroughly for such an ability. (I hope I just missed something.) So assuming that the function does not actually exist I'm going to categorize this as "Feature Request".

This really ought to be a function if Lucidchart is going to compete with Visio. It is a basic function after all.

Please advise!

Hey Cory thank you for posting in the Lucid community! Our sincere apologies for the delayed response on this thread - I wanted to follow up in case this answer may still be useful to you and to provide a solution for other users who see this thread in the future.

Unfortunately what you are trying to do is not currently supported in Lucidchart. However we're always looking for ways to improve Lucidchart and your feedback is the best way for us to do that. I've gone ahead and submitted your idea to our product team on your behalf and it will be taken into consideration when prioritizing improvements to the product.

For anyone else with a similar request: please submit your feedback using this feature request form in order to voice additional support to our development team. We would also love to hear additional detail about your use case or see an example of what you're hoping to achieve in the thread below. Additionally if you've discovered a workaround to achieve something similar in the meantime we'd love to hear about it! Thanks for your request!
