Hi, would it be possible to develop the Lucid LTI integration with D2L Brightspace such as the one that exists with Canvas LMS?

D2L Brightspace is the second largest higher education adopted LMS in the United States. This warrants serious attention.  D2L has phased out LTI 1.1 integration support,  so any integration based on LTI would need to adhere to the LTI 1.3 / LTI Advantage specifications. It would be beneficial to have both LucidChart and LucidSpark integrations.

LucidChart

  • Integration with the WYSIWYG HTML editor.
    • HTML content pages would have the ability to embed LucidChart materials directly into the content pages.
    • Quizzes - both the quiz creation tools and the quiz response tools when HTML editor access is provided for the response.
    • Assignments - when HTML editor access is provided (direct text response)
    • Discussions - in both the developers HTML editor and the editor available for students when they respond
    • Changes to the materials on the LucidChart platform would update the materials added in the Brightspace LMS via a sync mechanism that is controlled by the creator (i.e., push changes only when requested). This would work in all places where the integration is set (content, quizzes, assignments, discussions - for both faculty and student).
    • This opens a world of possibilities for creative faculty looking to create more engaging content and activities.

LucidSpark

  •  Integration as a tool that can be added to a course
    • This would allow faculty to add synchronous discussion activities or lectures to their courses.
    • Would recommend adding as a tool directly to the Content tool.
    • Would need to tap into D2L Brightspace’s scheduling function for materials
      • Start date
      • Due date
      • End date
    • Would be nice to tie back to grades tool as a participation activity in the course since we know if it doesn’t get a grade, student’s will not do it.

I teach Database Design and already introduce students to LucidChart as the tool they use to create ER diagrams. It would be so nice to have them be able to launch this as a tool directly in the course. The more integrated external tools are within the course design, the easier it becomes to keep students on track and engaged. They spend less time trying to navigate to all of the needed resources.

In a perfect world these integrations would work with either the free education accounts OR the Institution licensed platforms. I work for a PBI community college in the south where generational poverty is real and widespread. Free access programs are critical to student success because every dollar counts both in school and at home, and there is never enough to go around. As all of higher education is seeing, post COVID-19 enrollments are down substantially. This constrains the institution budget, which severely impacts the ability to add institution-level access to platforms like this.
