Hello,

I am trying to find a way to create animated flows like it appears here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/mendix_aws-cloudcomputing-mendix-activity-7107695715962740736-vkX_/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

So far, I couldn’t do it in Lucid or find any online tutorial to replicate the same. Draw.io seems able to do so using the ‘Flow animation’ property.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts here. This is an interesting area to us and something we could consider, but from a technical standpoint there are a few different ways we might want to go about it if we did. I’m curious from this group is anyone has thoughts on how animated flows would be most helpful?

When you are walking someone through a flow live (do you want to see step by step, or everything animating at once and you just talk over it in steps?)
When someone is going to review a doc on their own (does this help them to be able to interpret what is happening without someone walking them through it?)

@shirad - I appreciate your detailed description above. I’m trying to make sure I understand exactly what aspects of the animation allow for “Ensure different personas can view the big picture of complex architecture, easily”. Said differently - what is it about the way the animation works (or that you want it to work) that helps make things easier to understand.

For what it is worth, I just wanted to have a shape where the line coloring rotated through a set of colors at some frequency. I found this thread so adding to it as an example.

@Shivakumara Haadimani C Thanks for your comment! This feature request has the status “future consideration,” which means that the product development team isn’t currently working on this but might revisit in the future, and you’re welcome to continue adding feedback to it

A note about future consideration – when an idea receives this status, it can have a few reasons:

Technical limitations: an idea might have technical dependencies we need to address before it can be implemented.
Impact: this community is full of good, thoughtful ideas. However, sometimes the time investment to implement an idea might be too significant compared to the idea’s impact, or the product development team could realize other, more impactful or requested ideas at the same time.

This status definitely doesn’t mean “never,” though, and we encourage you to continue voicing your ideas within the community.

I’d be happy to have each directional arrow include some simple motion, like ants marching. I’d use it as a visual queue. I would not want to spend the time making separate animation steps for each step of the process I’m presenting. If I need that, I’d move to dedicated presentation software. (I never need that)
With simple ants marching motion lines, it just helps reinforce directionality. Yes, it helps interpret what’s happening.

Compared to the linkedin post referenced, I think it’s overkill and distracting to have the purple bubbles.

Ideally it’d be exportable as an animated GIF for easier distribution.

I would also find this functionality very useful. Simple animations on connector lines are a very effective way of showing data movement. Here’s an example I recently saw posted on LinkedIn:
