Has anyone been able to import (either direct or indirect) bpmn2 files into LC? If not does anyone know if there is a plan to add this functionality?
Hi Chad
Thanks for reaching out on the Lucid community. Unfortunately Lucidchart does not support BPMN 2.0 import and it is not currently on the roadmap. If you'd like to suggest this feature to our product development team please upvote this feature idea!
any update on this?
Hi
I agree that the ability to import and export BPMN2 files is functionality that Lucid should include
I think that this may be a missed opportunity, to be able to import and export a document with a well-defined and documented standard.
This would allow for users working in different tools that utilize BPMN to collaborate more effectively, as well as reduce the number of tools needed to work with BPMN documents as an individual.
Hi
It is unfortunate that Lucidchart could be just discarded from a list of potential tools to use for the easy BPMN 2.0 modeling as a complementary tool for those robust ones used for BPM and governance… I would suggest to get this into consideration especially now that is being a boom in the market. MAking an export format .bpmn will position the tool in a really good range in that list, but without this capability will be the opposite.
I’d like to cast my vote for this feature as well. My company is transitioning from generic process flow modeling (i.e. “Old School Visio Style”) to using BPMN, and we have other tools that import and export documents in BPMN XML format. Those other tools either do not have editing functions, or are not as easy and intuitive to use for editing as Lucid, so being able to use Lucid as our editing suite and pass those files back and forth between Lucid and other tools would be huge. The fact that Lucid does not support this is a HUGE missed opportunity!
Lucid has some scripts in their GitHub account, but you might need to know Python to use them.
The Import API also has references to BPMN specific shapes.
Given all of this, I don’t think it would take much for Lucid to fully support BPMN Import and Export.
+1 on wanting this functionality, it would be nice to have BMPN be portable and follow the standard vs just being a loose collection of shapes in Lucid.
Thanks all!
Thank you for the additional feedback
Same requirement here. Beyond the thank yous, can we please have a clear answer on whether it is a feature that is been looked at?
We are simply considering of not renewing and switch to other tools if the bpmn import/export is not considered in the short term / not even part of the roadmap.
Thanks for giving us a clear answer.
Alex
We hear you loud and clear. We're pleased to announce that we have now prioritized the development of BPMN 2.0 import functionality into Lucidchart.
We recognize the importance of this feature for seamless collaboration, compatibility with other tools, and process standardization. A specific release date isn't available yet, but we anticipate a launch within the next 6 months.
We will share updates as we progress. Thank you for your advocacy and patience.
Stay tuned,
Meredith Gardner

Thank you Meredith; the export is just as important as import. We use this tool for our requirements gathering sessions and spending all the time creating BPMN, but then it dies and is done. we have to re-create it all again in whatever tool we are using.
Just to add a +1 to this - we are looking to be able to import BPNM files into Lucid as soon as possible, and would be happy to do any beta-testing or feed into requirements.
One big requirement for us is that BPNM XML files often are not just one process per file. Our architecture tool (Bizzdesign) defaults to exporting entire folders of BPNM diagrams into one single XML file. So a key requirement is that Lucid is able to generate multiple process diagrams from a single XML file (like importing them all into a lucid folder or similar). Many online editors only seem to just take the first processes and show that, rather than them all. I can provide an anonymized example privately if required.
