When moving users off of an account, it’s important to understand where their documents will go. Here are a couple of scenarios to help you understand how this process works:

Deleting a user from your Team or Enterprise account ❌

If you choose to delete a user from your Team or Enterprise account, and that user has documents, you will find that you have the option to transfer their documents to another member of the team. After the user is deleted, a folder will be created with the contents of the deleted user’s files.

Removing a user from your Team👋

If you choose to remove the user from your Team account, you will not have the option to transfer their documents and those documents will travel with them when they are removed from the account.

An account downgrades or cancels a Team or Enterprise subscription 🔻

Choosing to downgrade or cancel is always a tough decision to make and knowing how to handle a downgrade can make it all the more difficult. When a Team or Enterprise account cancels, all of the users will stay on this account until officially removed. This means these users will not have access to features related to their Enterprise account, however, their documents will remain within their account. If a Team or Enterprise administrator makes the decision to cancel, it is best practice to remove or delete the users from the account prior to the cancellation. This will ensure that users that would like to maintain their account can do so as well as documents that administrators wish to keep can be transferred to the correct place.

Please note: When an Enterprise account is downgraded, users still have access to their existing team folders but wouldn’t be able to create new ones.
