I’ve paid $96/year for this service. I love it. suddenly I’ve been blocked from using it on my ipad w/o warning. I want to know why.

Hey there

Thank you for posting in the Lucid Community! This is due to some updates in the App Store. The Apple guideline that specifically has implications for individual users ability to use our iOS apps is 3.1.1. of the App Store Review Guidelines which essentially requires Lucid to implement Apple's in-app-purchasing methods within the apps if we continue to allow app access to our mobile apps by individuals. While this is not a brand new policy App Store reviewers have recently changed how they are enforcing this policy and have begun to reject App Store submissions based on a stricter definition of this rule.

While some apps qualify for exemptions to this rule as "reader" or "companion" apps and are not forced to implement in-app purchasing Apple has recently determined that Lucid apps do not qualify as companion or reader apps to our web offering. App Store reviewers have instructed us that our only available alternative is to limit access to our iOS mobile apps to users on accounts that are sold directly to organizations or groups of employees or students (i.e. Enterprise Team and Education users) which is an exemption Apple cites under 3.1.3 c.

Hope this helps clarify -- please let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks Eric R for the details. This seems like a big miss somewhere I can no longer use the product.

Another followup question.

It seems like a competitor with the exact same features Miro is still available. As well as ProCreate. Very similar. Seems like something is amiss here.

Only stating this here because I loved this product and can no longer use. Any additional clarification?

Hi @Peter D101, the good news is you’ll still be able to use Lucid on your iPad and other devices by using your mobile web browser. If you log in at lucid.app and add that URL to your home screen, you’ll have the same functionality as the app.

Our goal is always to ensure that you as the user are able to have the best experience with Lucid products. By pointing Individual Plan users to the iPad web browser, we're able to provide the best guarantee of product functionality. Others in the market may choose differently, but our priority is making sure you're able to access the full capabilities that Lucid has to offer.

Let me know if I can answer any questions, and if for some reason you run into any issues with using Lucid on your iPad’s browser, please let me know!

I won’t be renewing my contract since I can’t use the app. Lucid charts it was a ok 3-4 years but time to move on. Now a days tech is all about making lives easier and this has made it more difficult.

Hey @Bnickel -- sorry to hear this! We understand that the recent change in the availability of the Lucid iOS apps to Individual users may cause inconvenience. App Store reviewers have recently adopted a stricter definition to enforce a policy requiring certain apps to implement Apple’s in-app purchasing. Lucid apps were determined to not qualify under specific exemptions to this policy, and as a result, we are no longer able to offer the Lucid iOS apps to Individual users. You can see 3.1.1 of App Store Review Guidelines for more details.

Again, apologies for the inconvenience here! As Micah mentioned above, you CAN still use Lucid products on an iPad through the browser. We hope to see you in there!

I’m really glad I saw this before paying for individual plan. I don’t think it is much of a work to implement an in-app purchase functionality with the same app and publish it purely for individuals.

I appreciate it that web version is accessible, but you should understand there is a reason people install Apps for native experience and not having browser taking up some space on an already small screen like iPhone and iPad.

Until then, I use other softwares. Peace

Hey @benizi -- thanks for posting and I completely understand the frustration here. As @Eric R, @Micah and myself have pointed out in our replies above, this change was due to Apple’s changes to their guidelines related to in-app purchases. App Store reviewers have instructed us that our only available alternative is to limit access to our iOS mobile apps to users on accounts that are sold directly to organizations or groups of employees or students (i.e. Enterprise Team and Education users) which is an exemption Apple cites under 3.1.3 c.

I hope this helps explain -- let us know if you have any other questions!
