As we approach the coming school year and because of changes in our free EDU offering it may be helpful to clarify some differences between a free EDU account and a free account with Lucid.

Free EDU Account:

A free EDU account is available for students and teachers at higher education institutions. If you are a teacher or student using Lucid for classroom use please use your school issued email address to create a free Lucid account and then fill out this form to request a free educational upgrade. Once the form is submitted the upgrade may take up to one week to apply. The upgrade will be valid for two years.

Free EDU Updates:

During the Covid pandemic students were given complimentary access to the EDU premium service in response to the unique teaching environment. Throughout the 2020-2021 academic year students were able to utilize the full range of features offered by EDU premium without incurring any costs. However in July 2021 the free EDU offering was revised to give students access to a reduced set of features. Currently a free EDU account continues to offer only a limited number of features.

Free EDU vs. Free

It is important to note that besides a few upgrades a free EDU account and free account are very similar in their available functionalities. Much like a free account in a free EDU account only the 3 most recently created documents are editable. Any prior documents are available as view-only.  Both account types also have limited access to premium shapes and templates.

The main difference between a free EDU account and free account is that a free EDU account allows an unlimited number of objects on a document. While a free account only allows for 60 objects of a document. If you were to exceed 60 objects on a free account you will receive a upgrade pop-up notification.
