Hi All,

We have a specific requirement where we need export the Lucidchart diagram and route the file in QMS system for approval. Once approved, business users go back to the same file in QMS, download it, import it in lucid, revise it and then again route for approval after exporting.

What would be the best format to export the Lucid File:

  1. Visio
  2. CSV of Shape Data

We are leaning more towards “CSV of Shape Data” since it would cause less confusion as to whether go to Visio or to Lucid for revising.

Question: Does the “CSV of Shapes” export retain all the data inside it and there is 100% guarantee that what we get after importing is completely similar to what we had before the export in Lucid?

Are there any limitations to exporting as “CSV of Shape Data”

Hi @Aviral Ruhela ,

Thanks for posting in the Lucid Community! For more information on exporting and importing as a CSV of Shape Data, please see our Export or print a Lucid document and Create a process diagram from CSV import Help Center articles.

Additionally, to see which types of diagrams are compatible with a CSV import, you can open a new document, and click on File> Import > Data. You will then be prompted to select the type of diagram you want to create. You can look through the different options on the menu on the left. You can click between the diagrams to see what works with CSV data.

Please note that creating a diagram from a CSV import is an experimental feature. Some functionality may not work as expected.

Hi @Aviral Ruhela !

I’m intrigued by the flow that your team is using, and I’m curious about the steps of dumping a diagram “out” of Lucid just for the QMS tool to track, and then having to go through the added effort to pull the same diagram back “into” Lucid once the approvals are in place.

I’m curious whether you may have considered some of the options such as creating a Share link to the diagram, and pasting the Share link URL into the tracking tool for review.

I would strongly suggest also using the Document Status field (within Lucidchart, File > Assign Status) to mark the diagram as a status code such as “PENDING REVIEW”. Similarly, once the review is completed the diagram status code can be changed to “APPROVED”.
