Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out about this error code. We’ve seen it pop up before now, and our internal team believes this error is most likely caused by one of two things:

  • The assignment you’re trying to view has been deleted
  • This is a copied assignment from a different course (if this is the case, copying an assignment into another course is not currently supported, you would have to create a new assignment from scratch with the Lucid as the submission type and selecting the same source document in order to fix it.)

Can you tell me if either of those could be the case?

Hi @makelley

Thanks for posting in the Community! This error is likely being caused by a duplicate course or assignment. Can you confirm whether the Course or Assignment you are working with is a duplicate? Or is the assignment being imported from a different course?

Currently, copying/duplicating a Lucid assignment within the same course is not supported. For more information, you can check out this Community post.

If this is not occurring in a duplicated assignment or course, can you please send the following information so I can take a closer look?

  • What is your role for this Canvas Course (i.e. Teacher, Admin, Faculty, or Student)?
  • What Canvas environment are you using (Canvas Beta, Canvas Test, or Canvas Production)?
  • Could you confirm if the issue persists in a private or incognito window?
  • Could you confirm if the issue persists on an alternate browser?
  • Could you confirm if the issue persists when connected to an alternate network (or disconnected from your VPN, if applicable)?
  • Could you send a screenshot of the associated Javascript Console output? You can open your Javascript Console by pressing Ctrl + Shift + J (if your computer is a Windows / Linux) OR Cmd + Opt + J (if your computer is a Mac).

I was trying to use the same assignment in two different courses. Then I read this and I made a new assignment for the second class. I also tried using a blank board.  I am still getting the same error.

More info on the above issue.
I am the teacher. I use the most common Canvas environment, I did not know there were others.
The issue persist across browsers and private windows. I don’t use a VPN or have alternative networks.

I am getting the error code CE017. I’ve gone through all the steps from above, even tried using a blank board. I still get the code. What can I do? Please help.

Hi @mlopez68, thank you for continuing this thread. To confirm, are you still seeing this error after creating a new assignment?

Like my colleague mentioned above, copying/duplicating a Lucid assignment within the same course is currently not supported. For more information, you can check out this Community post.

Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions!

@Leianne C The link you provided is 404.

@mlopez68 I solved the problem described three months ago by creating a new blank assignment and embedding that one (you can copy the elements of your old assignment there once things are working).

Oddly enough, I did this on my own and it did not work. I met with the Lucid representative, followed her guidance and it worked. It is possible I was not following all the steps…? or the second time something got cleared? Computers work in “mysterious” ways.

Best luck.

Hi @fc24336, thanks for flagging that! I’ve updated the URL and it should be correct now. Adding it here as well for easy access:

Hi,

This is happening in some of my canvas courses. It’s happening at two schools. It’s only happening to some students. Most of them are getting in fine. Some of them are getting in eventually. Some of them never get in.

No idea what to think could be happening.

Hi @Michael.Merry, thank you for continuing this thread and sorry to hear you’re also seeing this issue. To confirm, do your students see the same CE017 error?

As mentioned above, this error is likely being caused by a duplicate course or assignment. Can you confirm whether the Course or Assignment you are working with is a duplicate? Or is the assignment being imported from a different course?

This will help us better understand the issue you’re experiencing. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Error Code: CE017!

This is my second time using this Lucid template in a Canvas course. Now I’m getting an error message. I made a copy of the Lucid Spark template, as was suggested in this thread and the error still persists. I’ve even tried to relink the external tool several times.  Having to create a copy each time a new course uses the template is adding more work IMO. It is Friday night and the students are unable to get their assignment done. Sadly, I have to go back to a Word document.

Hello @Leianne C

My method of copying a course is by syncing a blueprint course to a live course (students enrolled).  Once the course content was in the live course, I went into edit mode and detached the Lucid external tool from the assignment, then reattached the assignment from my library using the Lucid external tool. I did this several times. Cleared my browser history, then tried again. I also detached the Lucid external tool, then copied the assignment. I did not see the post you referenced until you linked it to your reply. I have read Vanessa’s limitations and I still do not understand why I am receiving an error message. This is the 2nd course that has used the Lucid template. The students in the first course used it without any issues. And I used the same method as a described above.

Hi @kg_ID, thank you for sharing more details and sorry for the trouble! The assignment should work after the first blueprint sync - could you please confirm if that’s where you see the CE017 error? If not, can you please let me know at what step do you see this error?

To help our team narrow down the potential cause of the issue you’re seeing, would you mind confirming the following and let us know if you notice any changes?

  • Is the assignment in the blueprint course still looking correct? (Correct Lucid template, no error codes, etc.)
  • Can you try delete the assignment from your current course and start from scratch by creating an assignment with your intended Lucid template? If so, is this successful?
  • Can you try create a new course, sync it to the blueprint you've been using, and then open the Lucid assignment? Do you see the CE017 error again or does this assignment work as expected?

Thank you in advance for all your help and patience. Please let us know if you have any questions!

@Leianne C

My responses are in red.

The first blueprint sync>live course worked fine. The 2nd sync>live course is when the error appeared.

To help our team narrow down the potential cause of the issue you’re seeing, would you mind confirming the following and let us know if you notice any changes?

Is the assignment in the blueprint course still looking correct? (Correct Lucid template, no error codes, etc.)
Yes
Can you try delete the assignment from your current course and start from scratch by creating an assignment with your intended Lucid template? If so, is this successful?
I did, and yes it was successful.

Can you try create a new course, sync it to the blueprint you've been using, and then open the Lucid assignment? Do you see the CE017 error again or does this assignment work as expected?

I see the Lucid template assignment that was synced over and I do not see an error code as yet.

I also created a new assignment in the live course and attached the Lucid document through the external tool feature and I see it just fine, but it also has my name attached to it.

As the instructional designer, I prepare the courses for the instructors so all they have to do is jump in on the first day of class. I see no error code in these two assignments (FYI, I have the other assignment still in the Assignments section and still see an error code there.)

So, I have not been able to duplicate the error code message. But, now my question is how do I get my name to not be shown in the title of the Lucid assignment?

@Leianne C

Update on the previous reply. I enrolled myself in the course as a student and the assignment looks fine, and it has my student name in the title of the document.

And no error code.

For now, I will have two assignments in the Blueprint course. One with the Lucid template attached and one without and then use the one that syncs over appropriately.
