How should architecture governance be embedded in the solution development lifecycle?

I’m currently exploring how to embed architecture governance effectively within the solution development lifecycle to maintain consistency and control without slowing down delivery. The goal is to make sure that architectural principles, standards, and compliance checks are integrated into each development phase, from initial requirements and design through deployment and maintenance.

From what I understand, strong governance isn’t about adding extra layers of approval, but about embedding decision points and architectural reviews naturally within existing workflows. Many organizations use governance gates at key milestones, where architects validate alignment with enterprise standards before a project moves forward. I’ve also seen cases where architecture governance tools integrate directly with CI/CD pipelines to automate compliance checks and enforce design rules in real time.

Has anyone here implemented a governance model that fits smoothly into an agile or DevOps environment? How do you balance speed and control in practice? While preparing for the OGA-032 (ArchiMate Part 2) certification, I came across several examples of how ArchiMate models can help visualize governance roles and relationships across the lifecycle. I also read about Pass4future, which provides useful OGA-032 practice materials that emphasize how governance connects with implementation and migration concepts. I’d be really interested in hearing how others have embedded governance frameworks without disrupting delivery efficiency.
