Have you used Lucid for online discussion?

Hi folks,

I am an instructional designer who works with higher ed instructors. For our asynchronous, online courses, we encourage instructors to include a discussion board where students introduce themselves in the first week. I am working with some programs that might make use of Lucid throughout the course, so I think using Lucid instead of a discussion board for the “Introduce Yourself” activity may be a good, low-stakes way of getting students into the platform and trying it out. Has anyone done this? Do you have examples of how you set up the template? I’ve checked available templates but the only thing I found was a photo collage.

If not, please let me know your ideas! I’m new to Lucid, but it looks like I could create a container the students could duplicate and add their own photo and introduction. I could probably add a locked container with tips on how to use Lucid as well.

Thanks in advance!

There are a lot of cool ways you can do this!  I’m an elementary school teacher, but my kids have done similar things  Very basic, but you could swap out my Thinking Hats for student names and they could create ‘Two Truths and a Lie” and students could interact that way.

You could make a mind map template and have the name/photo in the middle and then decide what type of facts you would like each student to share about themselves. You could do this in a breakout board type thing and everyone gets their own page and other need to ‘come visit’ their board.

Or, you could just make a box for each person and then have them add a picture and something about themselves.

Does that help give you some ideas??

You’re welcome!  There may be some other ideas here which could spark an idea too :)  You’d just want to modify them for what you want. But, at least seeing other options is sometimes helpful!
