I think I found a useful workaround to the lack of a feature to add red connection points to a shape: Create a tiny shape like a tiny rectangle place it where you want the connection to be and arrange it with Send to Back so it isn't visible. Then Group it with your custom shape and save the group. If you drag a line near the little invisible rectangle the connection point on it will appear. You can attach your line and the line will move if the shape moves. There may be some gotchas to this approach but it's working for me. Maybe someone who knows Lucidchart better than I can comment on whether this is a good approach or not.
Hi Alan
This sounds like a wonderful workaround for anyone looking to add predefined connection points to a custom shape. Thanks for sharing!
It really would be nice if Lucidchart could add this BASIC feature. I've put in a feature request and a forum post in the corresponding section.
I see that this feature has been asked for/about by several people but it still has yet to make an appearance.
Where are we at on getting this done Lucidchart team?
Hi Cory
Thanks for following up on this and for your feedback! We are continuously looking for how we can make Lucidchart more useful and effective for our users and therefore we take our feature requests very seriously. All information we collect fro feature requests are passed onto our Product Development team and reviewed when prioritizing improvements to Lucidchart. Any additional details about your use case would be much appreciated!
If anyone else is missing a feature to add extra connection points to shapes please make sure to add your vote for that by promoting your idea to our development team and upvoting this request.
The more people who request this feature the more likely it is to be prioritized and built out!
Thanks for posting this simple and functional workaround to what is a missing feature (or is it a patent issue?)
Grouping the objects keeps the lines from shifting unexpectedly.
