Can the bounding box of a label automatically resize to fit the text that's in it?

I found this but now after reading I think my request is even different.

I want the bounding box of a label to only be as big as it needs to be to accommodate the text in it. In the screenshot below, see that I duplicated 3 labels and change their text. All of them are the same width since, but I want them each to be “shrink to fit” depending on their text length.

Hi @Hanan, Dan, thanks for posting in the Lucid Community! I’ve moved your post to a new topic to be sure to address your specific request.

To clarify - are you hoping that text boxes automatically resize based on the text within them? The text box should resize automatically based on the text typed within. Is this what you’re hoping to see?

My apologies if I’m misunderstanding your request!

Hi @Ambar D  - thanks for the reply.
Yes, … kind of.  :)

I see that functionality in the animation you have above, that’s a good start. That will help in the case where I end up typing more than a couple lines in a text shape, and so then the text is well below the bottom of the bounding box.

I’m trying to understand if what you show above is already implemented / available?  If so, how do I set that?   The text shape for me just always starts out with a default width and the text I add wraps to a new line when hit the bounding box default width.

To further explain the use case from my pov, I have added to the example I showed above. This just happened to me in real life today. I have a container around some text and want to select the container and some other things around it. When I drag my selection to “touch” the things I want to select, the text label(s) are extending much further than they should or need to be so I’m inadvertently selecting the text labels along with the container, when by the selection rectangle I really only want to select the container around them.  If the text labels bounding boxes were “tight” to the text, then this would not happen. Hope that makes sense.  The top right rect is my selection rectangle and it selects anything that it intersects with as I drag the selection rectangle.

Hi @Hanan, Dan, thank you for providing those details!

Could you share a temporary Document Support PIN for this document? This will help me take a closer look at what’s going on. This PIN is safe to post in this thread because it is only accessible by members of the Lucid support staff. You can find steps for generating a Support PIN in this Lucid Help Center article: Generate a Lucid Support PIN
