Windows do not rotate. You simply drag them out and insert them into one of the walls of your floorplan and they will snap into position depending on the direction of your wall.
For doors the same is true. They will snap into position on the walls of your floor plan. You can control the direction in which a door opens by dragging the door in the direction you'd like it to swing from the purple box (see screenshot).
Hinges are shape specific so make sure to look at all of the doors in the door library. If this doesn't quite make sense check out this image which I think might better explain. On the first two the hinge is on the left side of the doors and on the second two the hinge is on the right side of the doors. You simply need to use the the purple block that's on the actual door (the part that swings) to adjust the direction the door swings in.
@akbar k the different objects are all hinging in the same direction. I am unable to get the door to flip in the direction I need. Any more suggestions?
Hi Alan
Thank you for posting in the community! Below you will find a screenshot of the same door shape on a wall.
By placing the door on the opposite side of the wall it changes the direction of the hinge. You can then adjust the swing of the door by dragging the purple box (see screenshot).
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Thx for the solution!
I also could not figure out how to 'flip the hinge'! Was looking for a rotation arrow and trying to flip a locked image until I found this. Potential enhancement opportunity?
Hi Jason
Thanks for continuing this thread! This is definitely a potential enhancement opportunity – we're always looking for ways to make Lucidchart more useful and effective for our users and your feedback is the best way for us to do that. Would you mind adding your idea to the product feedback area of the community? Ideas submitted there are passed on directly to the product development team for their consideration.
Thanks in advance for your request!
Same question here.
I am able to make a door swing in one or the other side of the wall but NOT able to switch it from left to right side opening.
Hey Davy
Thank you for keeping this conversation going! I have attached a short video on how this functionality works. You will first drag your door onto the canvas and use the purple square icon to flip the door's hinges.
Hope this helps--let me know if you have more questions I'd be happy to help! Cheers!
I have figured out how to place doors and work with the hinges. My problem is that I really need to rotate them. I'm dealing with a drawing of multiple buildings and two of the three buildings are on about a 30 degree offset and doors do not line up.
Hi Shawn thanks for continuing this thread! You should still be able to add doors and windows to walls even if they are on an angle. Please see the attached GIF for an example. The added doors / windows should also move along with the wall as you adjust the angle.
Could you please confirm if you are trying to add doors to walls like this? If not would you mind sharing a screenshot of your use-case? If you would prefer to share this with Support privately you can submit at support ticket via this form and someone from our team will be happy to assist. Cheers!
That looks great how you are using it. I always find a use for things that are not how they are intended. We had to make some quick drawings of a building and did not use all of the wall tools and everything. So shapes do not snap in place. I have one main building along the horizontal while two out buildings are on opposite sides at a 30 degree offset. Here's a pic of part of the building. You can see I have resorted to just using lines in place of doors as my background is in PDF or image format and not made from the wall shapes. I did use one door and you can see how it didn't align.
It's fine. I found a workaround. I used the wall shape to set the angle I needed then placed my door at that angle. I can then copy and paste a door at what ever angle I set the wall shape to. Not as simple as a rotation tool but works just as well.
Hi @shawn s thanks for following up and sharing that workaround! I'm glad to hear that using a wall shape worked for you. If you'd like to see a rotation tool in our floor plan shapes I recommend submitting your idea to the product feedback section of the community to share this directly with our development team. Thanks for your request and I apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.
