Laws can be complex and difficult to understand, especially HIPAA. Any student preparing for a job in the medical field needs to have a strong understanding of HIPAA laws and how to remain compliant in their future careers.
Yu helps students visualize and apply what they have learned about HIPAA to real-world scenarios using collaborative activities in Lucid. She starts by giving students a mind map activity to lay out all of the important components to HIPAA.
Once students have completed the HIPAA mind map, she invites all of the students into a collaborative board to analyze HIPAA compliance for a variety of scenarios. Students start by going into a visual activity to sort each scenario into two categories: HIPAA Violation or Not a HIPAA Violation.
Then, the class reviews and discusses the results of the initial poll using the questioning guide to summarize the class's thinking.
This activity gives the students an opportunity to put into practice the HIPAA regulations that they are learning in class, better preparing them for implementing them when they are on the job.
