As Corey thinks about how to use Lucid to engage students she immediately thought about using it for a fun, but informative bell ringer activity to kickstart a phlebotomy lesson. She put together the following bell ringer that can be used for both in-person and online classes.
The activity starts with a quick welcome to encourage students, a fun joke to loosen up the class, and a section for students to add their questions before class starts.
Then, to kickstart the lesson the students complete a visual activity that reviews the information they learned in previous lectures and assigned readings. For this activity, the students drag out each of the tubes to put them into the correct order. Students submit when they are done and they can review the results and correct order together as a class. This helps Corey gauge where students are at, clarify misunderstandings, and determine how to proceed with her future instruction.
